NaNoWriMo: It begins!

Hello lovely readers! and Happy 1st of November. This marks the start of many things, Movember, the run up to Christmas (because as soon as Halloween is over no one can tell me I can’t be getting ready for the best holiday of the year!) and of course, NaNoWriMo. I’ve been signed up to NaNoWriMo for several years, which has only really meant getting several emails a year and feeling guilty for never actually even starting the project. The first year I wrote a rather horrific scene, totalling probably 200 words at best, and that was it. Clearly, I love to write, however the problem is pretty simple – I can’t write fiction. They say everyone has a book inside them (oh-er) but I’m pretty sure mine is a Children’s picture book, or perhaps even just a collection of naughty jokes. But I didn’t want to be left out, and I love a good challenge, so I had a thorough snoop around the FAQs until I found a section about ‘NaNoWriMo Rebels’! A NaNo Rebel is someone who does not play exactly by the rules but it still counts! So, for example if you’re not writing a novel from scratch, or perhaps you’re writing non-fiction, or maybe, just maybe, you’re writing a collection of blogs and articles. (I think you can see where this is going…!) So, for this November, I am going to write 50,000 words of blog posts (and articles for websites that I contribute to) over the whole month. I can’t quite decide if this is going to be harder, or easier than a novel. On one hand it’s lots of little posts, that are unrelated, but on the other hand, it’s having to think of lots of little post ideas that are unrelated! The important thing to remember (for myself and you!) is that the point of NaNoWriMo, is to write without criticising yourself or thinking too hard about what you write and that’s something I’m going to try and live by. Usually, a blog takes me a little while to write, whilst I make sure it is a good topic, well written and makes sense – this may all go out of the window for the next 50,000 words (well, 49,625 now!), please forgive me for this!I really think that this is going to be a good exercise for me, ensuring that I am pushing myself to create content and be less particular with what I post.

Of course, I am not going to be posting all of these blogs as they are written, but chances are I’m going to have enough to post once a day for the next few weeks! I’m going to be posting about a variety of things, as well as catching up on some books I’ve been meaning to review for a while. If you want to keep up to date, please pop your email in the little subscribe box on the right, or perhaps follow me on BlogLovin’.

and if you want to follow my adventures with NaNoWriMo (or you’re taking part and want to be a writing buddy!) you can find me under Codiekinz (of course!)
