New Yooorrrrkkkk. Concrete Jungle <strike> wet dream, tomato </strike> where dreams are made, oh!
Even as a small child, I have always wanted to go to New York. It’s where things happened. Where the cool kids lived. From the cast of Friends, to characters in my YA angsty books (Princess Diaries, Nick and Norah Judy Blume books etc), New York was always The Dream. So when I got the chance to go in Summer 2013, as part of an epic cross country trip, I couldn’t believe it. Actual, real-life New York.
We did the whole thing on a shoestring budget, after travelling around America for a few weeks beforehand, but still had the best ever time. So much so, that after hearing about our adventures, Steven’s Mum and Dad decided to book us all a trip for Steven’s 21st birthday in the following February! Going in the Winter, with a much healthier budget, was a completely different experience, and so I thought I would start a blog series, comparing them both.
Don’t get me wrong, both times were incredible and although the second time cost a whole lot more, it wasn’t ridiculous (as it could be going to New York!). I think there are somethings that you can definitely save on, and others you could easily splurge, so each week I am going to go through several topics, comparing budgets – and of course the completely opposite weathers!
I would absolutely love to go back again (and again and again). The dream would be to go before Christmas and pretend I’m Kevin McAllister – and maybe one day that will happen.
But for now I am going to hold on to the memories of the previous trips, and live vicariously through these blog posts. Hopefully they’ll help you if you’re planning a trip to the Big Apple sometime soon! (Which you totally should!)

I am yet to make my way to USA, but New York is definitely on the list 🙂
It’s such an amazing place! Each state is so different 🙂
Loved reading this, and I totally would go back before Christmas just to pretend to be Kevin McAllister if I were you!! I have never been to America before, but New York is on my list just to say I’ve been there because it’s in so many films etc. And I feel like the shopping would be amazing too!! I can’t wait to read more about saving or splurging on certain things, I think it would help me if I planned to go there in the future! 🙂 xx
