Cute, but easy Bridesmaid Proposal DIY!

My mantra for this wedding is ‘I only plan on doing this once, so let’s do it right’. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean I want to spend a whole bunch of unnecessary money on it, but I do want it to be special. So, instead of just calling my friends to ask them to be Bridesmaids, I decided to make a little keep sake for them to pop the question as it were. I looked all over Pinterest but everything seemed to cost quite a bit, and with a fair few bridesmaids, I just couldn’t afford that!
As I was going home just a few days after we had gotten engaged, and I wanted to ask them in person, this meant I had to think fast, on a very tight budget. I got a multi pack of matches, in the bigger box, for about £1. Everything else used were just bits and pieces from my over flowing craft drawers.

I began by emptying the match boxes and sliding out the insert. I cut some nice paper to fit snugly inside and wrapped the outside in some patterned Duck Tape. You can use paper, or Washi tape, or whatever, but I collect the patterned Duck Tape and it gave me an excuse to use this one I’ve had for a while.

I’ve got these lovely little wooden Scrabble letters so I used a hot glue gun to attach the correct initial to the top left of each box. I cut out two little speech bubbles about the same size, and glued one to the front and one to the inside so that it could be seen when the box was opened. I wrote on the outside ‘Will you…’ and on the inside ‘…Be my bridesmaid?” with a thin purple pen. I have awful handwriting so it would look a lot better if you had nicer handwriting, but I still think it came out pretty well.

Any excuse to use my button collection, I added a little round button to the side of the drawer and wrote ‘Push’ with a sharpie to ensure that the recipient opened in the correct way around.

It was quite hard to write on the side, so it doesn’t look great. If I had had ink for my letter stamps I would have used those, but improvising meant a Sharpie had to do.

This was the finished product! It’s pretty simple but the girls seemed to like them and they were a bit more special than just asking. They were super easy to make, after figuring it out with the first one, the rest took about 10 minutes each maximum. They didn’t cost much to make either, as the matchboxes were the only things I bought, the rest was just whatever I could find.
